Digital Learning in Haiti

Overview

Access to technology should not determine a child’s future.

Silem Foundation helps bridge the digital divide by supporting school-based digital learning and foundational technology skills that strengthen education, support continued learning, and prepare students for future opportunities.

Our approach focuses on shared access, responsible use, and integration into learning, ensuring technology enhances education rather than replacing it.

What We Do

  • Install and equip school-based computer labs that provide shared, supervised access for students and teachers

  • Support foundational digital literacy skills for students and educators, aligned with classroom learning

  • Promote safe and responsible technology use, including digital citizenship and online awareness

  • Introduce students to future learning pathways through age-appropriate exposure to digital tools and educational technology

Why It Matters

Digital exclusion deepens educational inequality.

Without access to basic digital tools and skills, students and teachers face barriers to continued learning and participation in modern education systems. School-based computer labs provide structured, equitable access to technology while strengthening teaching quality and learning continuity.

Who This Program Supports

  • Students with limited or no access to technology

  • Teachers developing digital literacy and integrating technology into instruction

  • Schools expanding learning opportunities in a responsible, managed way

Safeguards & Sustainability

  • Computer labs are installed within schools and managed by school leadership

  • Shared-use models reduce loss, misuse, and inequity

  • Teacher involvement ensures appropriate, education-focused use

  • Equipment selection prioritizes durability, maintenance, and long-term usability

  • Digital learning activities align with school capacity, electricity, and connectivity realities

Outcomes We Track

  • Student and teacher access to digital learning opportunities

  • Foundational digital literacy skills and confidence
